My dearest blog readers,
This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write. But after much consideration, I have decided to take a break for a few weeks. Don’t worry – I’ll be back as soon as I have recharged.
You see, dear friends, I haven’t been feeling in the baking/cooking/writing/photographing groove for a little while, and I don’t want to keep stressing myself out to produce content and feel like the posts I am producing are unoriginal and mediocre work. I want to give you the best recipes; the prettiest pictures (although, I’m still learning every time I get my camera out); the most authentic writing; and the best of Thoroughly Nourished Life every time I produce a post. I don’t feel like I am bringing my best to the table at the moment.
So, I’m taking a three week break.
I’m going to enjoy the two weddings, one birthday, and Mother’s Day celebrations that are packed into the next three weeks. I’m going to take some time to breathe. To recharge. To connect to my inspiration and motivation again. I’m going to cook from the books piling up beside my bed, and from the blogs of my beautiful friends. I’m so busy trying to think up the next thing to share here sometimes that I don’t get the chance to try out other people’s delicious creations! I’m going to try out some new photography and branch out from the microcosm of my kitchen. I’m going to read. I’m going to run. I’m going to take a beat and just let Amy be Amy.
I love blogging. I’ve loved it ever since I hit publish on my first blog post way back in February 2011 (my first blog will forever be in my heart). But when you love something you also know when it’s time to take a break and recharge before you start to resent it. When you lose that passion, that spark and flame, you need to rekindle the fire before it turns to ashes (wow, how’s that for some purple prose!). So before my love for blogging turns sour, I’m taking my leave for three weeks.
In true Amy fashion though, I’ve got a plan for my break.
- Week One: No blog thinking. No checking WordPress stats. No pre-writing posts. Just let it be.
- Week Two: Brainstorming. What do I want the future of Thoroughly Nourished Life to look like? What do I want to do more of? What do I want to change or abandon? Where do I go from here?
- Week Three: Drafting and planning. Get ready for my re-emergence into blogging. Plot out a few weeks of recipes that I’d like to try and start to ease myself back.
See? Even on a break I’ve got to have a plan. Lord help us if I don’t have a plan. Yes, I am that annoying tourist who carries printed out maps with walking routes on them and pencils in potential times for making it to certain landmarks, and/or where to eat along the way. Type A to the core.
I’ll still be posting on Instagram, Snapchat (username: tnamy), Pinning like mad, and sharing some of my favourite archived recipes on my Facebook page. Please come and visit me there! The blog just won’t get any new updates for a few weeks. But when I come back, I’ll be fresher, more inspired, and ready to make this space the best that I can.
I’ll be home dear readers, but for now, I’m heading out into the non-virtual world with a clear heart and open eyes.
Until we meet here again,
